Caicedonia, the Valley’s guard
These are Chanama’s lands, one of the most feared caciques of the Burila tribu, which strongly opposed to the spanish conquest. Caicedonia is located 170 Kilometers away from Cali, on the high mountains and hills, where easily grow plantations of avocado, banana, pumpkin, corn and of course coffee, the main product of the region, which led Caicedonia being part of the Coffee Cultural Landscape, declared by UNESCO in 2011 as World Heritage.
Its wide streets are nice with the visitors, making them feel at home. People from Caicedonia are very kind, if you ask them for an address they are not going to tell you directions, instead, they are going to take you whatever you ask. Their accent is strong, and very similar to the one that people have in Antioquia and Caldas. One of the most visited attractions in Caicedonia is the “Santuario María Madre de Dios” a sanctuary where believers go, specially on healing and liberation masses, which are perfect for the tourists who are looking for a spiritual trip.
The gastronomy of the town is known by a typical plate, “Pollo a la carreta” a unique chicken recipe which was created 40 years ago when the governor went to Caicedonia. The chargrilled chicken is served with rice, potato, “yuca” or Cassava plant (a typical tuber which is used in a lot of colombian recipes), offal and “hogao” (one of the most traditional seasoning sauce in the country). As this secret preparation, there are many other surprises, mysteries and magical places which are hidden in this heavenly land.
"The Biennial is a trip to discover new worlds and also to be discovered and seduced by new movements, lenguages and imaginaries to think about dancing as a way to express our emotions" says Amparo Sinisterra de Carvajar, president of the 2nd Biennial.
This is the Pacific festival, in which the most importat thing is to highlight the gastronomy, the folk music and the traditions of this region in Valle del Cauca. It is an awesome experience for the locals and of course for the visitors who want to dive into this culture.
This is one of the most important and traditional festivals in Colombia. In which the favorite attractions are the "Salsódromo", the "Cali viejo" carnival, the antique cars parade, the "Melómanos" meeting, the "Superconcierto" a really nice musical show, between other shows ans events.
