Candelaria, the place where the devil shows up to dance.
28 Kilometers away from Cali is Candelaria, a town of flat and green lands, a green made of sugarcane. But even closer to the Valley capital, after passing the bridge that goes across the Cauca River is the neighborhood Juanchito. When you get to this place, the stories start to recover life, dressed of salsa passion and “sabor”. The legend tells that the devil used to appear at “Agapito” during the Holy Week, just to dance, this was one of the popular and iconic discos of Juanchito.
That’s how Juanchito became one of the most famous “rumbeaderos” (clubs) of the world. During the XIX and XX century the Cauca River was navigable and this place was the fluvial port of Cali, being an strategic point for the economy but also for the people, who started a musical, ethnical, and cultural revolution influenced by the african legacy, that came along with the workforce.
Already in Candelaria, one of the most visited and desired attractions are the “rellenas” from “El Piqueteadero Doña María”. During 50 years or more, this has been an official stop for the locals and the visitors who look for the legendary seasoning, promoted by word of mouth.
"The Biennial is a trip to discover new worlds and also to be discovered and seduced by new movements, lenguages and imaginaries to think about dancing as a way to express our emotions" says Amparo Sinisterra de Carvajar, president of the 2nd Biennial.
This is the Pacific festival, in which the most importat thing is to highlight the gastronomy, the folk music and the traditions of this region in Valle del Cauca. It is an awesome experience for the locals and of course for the visitors who want to dive into this culture.
This is one of the most important and traditional festivals in Colombia. In which the favorite attractions are the "Salsódromo", the "Cali viejo" carnival, the antique cars parade, the "Melómanos" meeting, the "Superconcierto" a really nice musical show, between other shows ans events.
